What is a simple sentence?

Definition: A basic sentence consists of a subject, a verb, an object, and sometimes some modifiers. However, it only has one independent clause. According to the Cambridge Dictionary, is “It is a sentence that has only one verb.” According to the Collins Dictionary, “a simple sentence as “a sentence consisting of a single main clause.”
